Walter E. Lee passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025 at the age of 75 at his home in Essington, PA. Walt lived an active life and was a staple within the community.

Walt was a proud firefighter which began in 1970 with the Essington Fire Company. Through hard work, dedication and leadership, he rose through the ranks to become Chief of the Department in 1979, a position he held with honor until his retirement in 2014. His career was marked by unwavering dedication to serving others, mentoring younger firefighters and strengthening the department that he loved. Walt received numerous awards during the course of his career including Firefighter of the Year, Interboro School District Hall of Fame Inductee, multiple lifesaving commendations and awards from federal, state and local entities. Walt also served as the Highway Foreman for Tinicum Township, a position he held for over 3 decades.

Beyond the fire service, Walt was deeply dedicated to his family. He is survived by his wife Yvonne, 3 children; Krissi (Bill), Tricia (Tommy) and Walt "Turtle" Jr. (Shaina). Walt adored his 2 grandchildren; Eddie and Hunter. Walt was the loving younger brother to Charlie (Sally) and an exceptional uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his wisdom, his command presence and his deep compassion for others. Walt was an avid hunter and loved his time down the shore, fishing on the bay.

Walt's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched-both in the community he served and in his fire service family who looked to him for guidance.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Tinicum Township Firemen's Relief Association and/or the Firefighter Cancer Support Network.

Walt will be remembered not only as a dedicated fire chief, but as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, mentor, and friend. His life was one of service, courage, and love.

Services will be held on Thursday August 28, 2025 at the Tinicum Township Fire Company, 99 Wanamaker Avenue, Essington, PA 19029. Visitation is from 9 am until 11 am. Burial to follow at the Glenwood Memorial Gardens, 2321 West Chester Pike, Broomall PA 19008. Fire service honors will be present to pay tribute to his years of service and leadership.
