David was born in Denver Colorado, March 26th, 1942 and adopted by James Kenneth Cummings and Grace Murray Cummings. David was a member of the Utah National Guard, 144th Evac Hospital, where he was sent to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri where he worked in the contagion ward with meningitis patients. He received an honorable discharge as E-F Spec 5.
All of his life he wanted to be a policeman. With his focus, determination, and tenacity, he realized his dream. He was hired by the Murray police department in 1966. After 20 years, and hundreds of stories to tell, he retired in 1986 with the rank of Sergeant.
David married Joyce Riet and had three children together: Susan Cummings, Diana Wyatt, and Jim Cummings. They later divorced. In 1980, David married the love of his life, Shawna, and became father of her children; Shaun, Gina, and Dallas Killpack. Additionally, he is survived by his grandchildren: Braden Wyatt, Shaunte Killpack, Khoi Killpack and Kai Wyatt.
A viewing will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025 from 10:00 am to 10:45 am at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary (4760 S. State St., Murray, UT) with funeral services to follow at 11:00 am. Interment will take place at Wasatch Lawn.

Dear Grandpa, I miss you so much. You and Grandma were the best part of my childhood. I have nothing but sweet and irreplaceable memories of you two and being in your home. You always took me in and treated me with kindness and an enormous amount of love and patience. I can never repay you for all of the moments I will never forget. Thank you for being such a wonderful man to me and my brother Dallas. We will never forget you. You live inside of our hearts, forever.
