David J. Daughenbaugh, 73, of Milesburg, passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born on June 3, 1951, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Walton L. and Mary Louise (Howard) Daughenbaugh, Sr. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rita Kay (Summers) Daughenbaugh, who passed on August 20, 1997.
David was a 1969 graduate of Bellefonte Area High School. Throughout his life, he held various jobs, always working hard to provide for his family. He spent many years selling Kirby sweepers before joining the Maintenance Department at Sears in the Nittany Mall, where he retired after over 20 years of dedicated service. Never one to sit still, he later worked at Eagle Valley Personal Care Home in Milesburg-first in maintenance and, more recently, as a caregiver.
David was known for his kind and generous spirit. He never hesitated to help someone in need and made friends wherever he went. A proud SAL member of the Bellefonte American Legion, he enjoyed socializing there and relaxing with a Windsor and water. In his younger years, he loved hunting and fishing trips to the Great Lakes. Above all else, David cherished his family-they were his greatest joy.
He is survived by his two daughters: Becky K. Crader and her husband, Justin Sr., and Holly S. Daughenbaugh and her companion, Robert Rush, both of Milesburg; his companion, Moliupu "Opal" Daughenbaugh of Milesburg; one sister, Cathy Shafranich of Bellefonte and one brother, Walton L. Daughenbaugh, Jr of Bellefonte. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alyssa Guisewhite (Cody) of Millheim and Justin W. Crader Jr. of Milesburg; two great-grandchildren, Malayna and Carson; and a great-niece he loved like a granddaughter, Taura Capri Daughenbaugh of Bellefonte. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins also mourn his passing.
In addition to his parents and wife, David was preceded in death by his brother, Timothy A. Daughenbaugh.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Milesburg. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home, with Pastor Catherine Dittman officiating. Burial will be private at Eagle Cemetery in Boggs Township.
Arrangements are under the care of Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc., Milesburg, PA. An online guestbook and condolences may be shared at www.daughenbaughfuneralhome.com.
