David B. "Mr. D" Douglass, 71, passed away peacefully at his home on July 9, 2025, after a courageous but brief battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends, sharing cherished memories in his final days.
Born April 1, 1954, in Glendale, TN, David was the son of the late Frances (Johns) and James Douglass. He graduated from Columbia High. He met his wife Janice during his work travels to Atlanta at the Holiday Inn where Janice worked in 1980 and were married in May of 1981.
David was the beloved husband of Janice L. (Hetman) Douglass for an incredible 44 years. He was a proud father to Stephanie Douglass of Macon, GA; Martin Douglass and his wife Heather of Atlanta, GA; and Zachary Douglass and his wife Kathryn of
Forsyth Co, GA. He was a loving grandfather to Amber (8), Scarlet (6), and Elliot (5 months). He is also survived by his brother John Douglass and sister-in-law Marcia Hetman. He was predeceased by brothers Tommy and Carl and sister-in-law Linda
(Hetman) Benson, as well as several beloved nieces and nephews including Angela (Douglass) and Tyson Brock, Richard Benson, and Nicholas Benson.
David dedicated 40 years of his life to CSX Transportation as a conductor, a career he found challenging like a game of chess. Outside of work, he found immense contentment relaxing in his "office"-his beloved back porch-where he spent countless
hours. He also took great pride in his yard, often informing us, "Yard's done!"
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His gentle but firm spirit and unwavering love will forever remain in our hearts.
On Sunday, July 13, 2025, visitation will be held at St. Mary of Egypt Orthodox Church, located at 925 Beaver Ruin Road, Norcross, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM followed by refreshments in the parish hall. On Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at 2pm a funeral service and internment will take place at St. Innocent's Orthodox Church, located at 7301 Rivoli Road Macon, GA, at 2:00 PM followed by light refreshment in the parish hall.
If you wish to send flowers, please send them to Bill Head Funeral Home at 6101 Lawrenceville Hwy Tucker, GA 30084. Donations may be made in David's memory to St. Mary of Egypt Orthodox Church, 925 Beaver Ruin Road, Norcross, GA.

What a kind and generous man! He was always ready to lend a hand when someone was in need. He and Janice lived across the street to my sister for several decades. We will surely miss him and our condolences to Janice and their family. Prayers for peace
