On January 28, 1977, the affectionate, loveable, gentle giant, David Desean Duncan (please change the font on the spelling of his name) was born to Joseph and Camellia Duncan in
Houston, Texas. Camellia fondly recalls her baby as being "busy" boy. He came into this world full of energy and joy. Joe and Camellia took pride in caring for David and his siblings as adolescents and adults. They taught David to love God, serve others, and take care of your family. He exemplified the character they instilled in him, daily.
Day Day, as his siblings, cousins, and family lovingly called him, was the middle child of the Duncan offspring. Older sister Tracie and Reggie knew their brother was the boss; at least they let him think it. The unbreakable bond was evident every time they gathered. As adults, they enjoyed meeting at their childhood home; they ate, Day Day teased Tracie, Reggie snickered, and Day Day ate again. The siblings are forever grateful for their brother and the joy he brought to the family.
David grew up with two loving extended families as well. The Bookers and Duncans meant the world to David. He spent his childhood climbing the trees in East Texas, eating cool cups, and attending the annual RedBud Festival with many of his 20+ first cousins. If there was a family function, he was going to be there just in time for blessing of the food. He led the charge of old but good pictures of the grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins in the cousins' group text. He reminded us that family is sometimes all we have. We thank God for the great man who we were blessed to called big cousin.
David matriculated through the Ridgegate Area of Fort Bend ISD and proudly graduated from THE Willowridge High School in 1995. (Go Mighty Eagles). While at Da'Ridge, David left it all on the field as a football player. It was also there that he built some lifelong friendships. Lloyd Clay recalls, "Big D was an awesome person and friend. To this day, his spiritual conversations have helped me be a better person." Soar, Eagle, Soar.
Big Dave's, as he was known in the warehouse, career allowed him to serve the people of the greater Houston Area for 27 years as an UPS employee. David held multiple titles within the company. With each promotion, he remained humbled while doing the task with fidelity. Coworkers who became friends describe his laugh as infectious and his spirit always upbeat and positive. It wasn't about what brown did for David, but what Big Dave did for the people of UPS.
David married Debra Nunn-Duncan and to this union four children were raised in a loving and sacrificial home. David combed hair, attended orchestra concerts and basketball games after a long day of work. Alon, Davin, Azarion, and Dior meant the world to their dad. His influence, work ethic, and sacrifice will continue to sustain them for the rest of their lives.
David leaves a great legacy which will be cherished for a lifetime to his wife, Debra; three sons; Alon, Davin, and Azarion, and his forever favorite daughter, Dior. His parents, Joseph and Camellia Duncan, sister Tracie and her four sons; Jailyn, Eric, Andre, and Ethan, and his beloved brother Reggie and sister-in-law, Stacy will always have a special place in their hearts for David. His extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, colleagues, and friends are forever grateful for the man David Desean Duncan.
