In Loving Memory of David William Ebeling April 4, 1967 – January 20, 2025
David William Ebeling, age 57, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025, after a short but mighty battle with lung cancer. Dave was a man of selflessness, strength, and devotion, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
Beloved husband of Patricia (Chiamas) for 25 beautiful years, Dave was the heart of their family and the rock on which their lives were built. Their love story was one for the ages-rooted in faith, laughter, and countless meals cooked with love. From the moment they met, they were inseparable, their bond unshakable, and their marriage a testament to true partnership. His deep love for Pat inspired his conversion to Greek Orthodoxy, a journey that mirrored the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." Together, they built a life filled with faith, joy, and unconditional love.
Dave was the devoted father of Nikolas, Helena, and Elisabeth, who were his greatest pride and joy. He was their biggest cheerleader, fiercest protector, and greatest role model. Whether cheering on the sidelines at their sporting events, helping with school projects, or simply sharing quiet moments of advice and encouragement, Dave's presence in their lives was a constant source of strength and inspiration. His love and guidance shaped them into the remarkable people they are today.
Born on April 4, 1967, in Berwyn, Illinois, Dave grew up in a family that nurtured his many talents. Raised in Berwyn and later in Hoffman Estates, he spent cherished hours with his parents and grandparents, who instilled in him a love of cooking, gardening, and fixing just about anything. These skills became hallmarks of his character, and his cooking, in particular, played a starring role in his life-winning over Pat and hosting family and friends for decades. His love language was food and no one ever left his house hungry.
Dave's professional journey included a successful career in supply chain consulting, but his proudest role was that of a full-time dad. He retired early to dedicate himself to his family, supporting his children in their academic and athletic pursuits while Pat's demanding career as a physician flourished. He was the quintessential "sports dad," never missing a game, meet, or concert. He wasn't just a father; he was a best friend, mentor, and teammate to his children, always by their side in every chapter of their lives.
An avid sports fanatic, Dave was a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs and Michigan State Spartans, sharing countless game days with his children and best friend, Dan Hoffman. His loyalty to the Green Bay Packers, despite living in a family of Bears fans, became a playful rivalry that brought laughter and sometimes tears to family gatherings.
From running marathons to Iron Man triathlons, Dave was one of the most disciplined athletes. His athletic endeavors resulted in some of his most cherished achievements. His love for the outdoors included running, biking and skiing, much of which he has shared with his children.
Dave's love for his German and Czech heritage was deeply ingrained in him and proudly passed on to his children. He cherished his travels, especially his visits to the Czech Republic and Austria, where he reconnected with his roots and extended family. His son Nikolas followed in
his footsteps, learning German and studying in Germany, a testament to the values and traditions Dave held so dear.
To those who knew him, Dave was the epitome of loyalty, selflessness, and dependability. He had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel valued, and his incredible knowledge of seemingly everything made him the go-to person for advice or a helping hand. His sense of direction-both literal and metaphorical-was unmatched, and he always seemed to know the right path, no matter where life took him.
Dave's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched with his kindness, wisdom, and love. He leaves behind not only his beloved wife and children but also cherished memories that will forever live in the hearts of his family and friends.
David is survived by his loving wife, Patricia (Chiamas); his children, Nikolas, Helena, and Elisabeth; his brother, Steve (PI) Ebeling; His Aunts, Jeannie Hodek and Linda Bueghley and Uncles, Larry Hodek and Dale Bueghley, his father-in-law, Nick Chiamas; his sisters-in-law, Elaina Polsen, Joanna Saldok, and PI Ebeling; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. He is reunited in heaven with his father, William Ebeling and his mother, Joanne (Pavlik) Ebeling, his mother in law, Irene Chiamas and his grandparents, Elsie Pavlik Hasil, Joseph Pavlik, Joseph Hasil, Isla Ebeling and William Ebeling.
There are no words to fully capture the depth of Dave's impact on the people around him. His boundless generosity, and remarkable fighting spirit will be forever missed but never forgotten. His memory lives on in his family, his friends, and the countless people he touched.
In honor of David's life, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Lung Cancer Foundation.
