David Eichelsdorfer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, LLP - West 38th St. on Aug. 29, 2022.
David Raymond Eichelsdorfer, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 28th at Sarah Reed with his wife and daughter by his side. He was called Dave, Daddy Dave, Mr. E and Eich by those who loved him. He was born April 5, 1940 in Rochester NY, to the late Raymond and Charlotte Eichelsdorfer. Dave was a graduate of Cathedral Prep, Class of 1958, where he will be remembered by the "Prep Lunch Bunch". For 30 years his classmates received a phone call from him telling them when and where they would meet for lunch that month. He enjoyed those lunches and the reunions over the years. He was honored at their 50th class reunion for gathering the guys together. David graduated from Gannon College in 1963 with a degree in mathematics. While there, he was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. He then graduated in 1966 from the State University of New York at Buffalo with a master's degree in business administration. He began his long career in teaching in 1965 when he was hired by Gannon College, later Gannon University. While there, he was honored as a Distinguished Professor in 1989, the fifth year this honor was bestowed or given. For many years, he was an advisor to the Business Fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi. "Mr. E" remained there for 35 years. He also had a part time job at WICU-TV for 25 years. David married Nancy Hinds on June 27, 1964 in Oil City. They were married for 58 years. Dave loved collecting books and Time Magazine covers. For many years, his hobby was to get signatures of people whose pictures appeared on the Time Magazine cover. He had over 500 of them signed. He loved music and went to the Erie Philharmonic for 50 years, the Erie Playhouse for many years, attended many concerts and lectures at the Chautauqua Institution, and was on the board of Jazz Erie. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jeffrey; his daughter, Kathleen; and his brother Gary. He is survived by his wife Nancy (Hinds) Eichelsdorfer; his daughter, Susan and her husband, Jeff Demenik; his brother, Bob (Shirley) Eichelsdorfer; step-grandchildren, Ashley (Tom) Rock and Matthew (Annie) Demenik; step great-grandchildren, Bradley Rock and Jack Demenik. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces and his cousin, Mary Ann (Herb) Down. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th St. at Greengarden Blvd. Services will be held there on Thursday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Jude the Apostle Church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Dave.

Nancy and Susan,
We´re sorry we didn´t check the paper earlier this week; we just learned of Dave´s passing. We remember Dave as outgoing and friendly. I frequently ran into him at Bob Evans with his buddies. You have our deepest sympathy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Eich's passing. He was a huge part of my experience at Gannon and was the first professor to truly teach me how to study. I have no doubt that the tools I learned from him helped me pass my CPA exam years ago. He has left a lasting impact on so many people.
