On Friday, May 30, 2025, the world lost a remarkable man, David John Fulmer, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, who graced us with his presence for 86 years. Born on August 22, 1938 to the late Marian (nee Walters) and late William Fulmer, in Cincinnati, Ohio. David built a life as rich and vibrant as the landscapes he cherished.
A proud veteran of the United States Marine Reserves from 1956 to 1962, David exemplified dedication both in service and in his community. He held the esteemed position of Fire Chief at the New Baltimore Volunteer Fire Department from 1971 to 1977, but it was in the embrace of nature that David truly thrived. An outdoor enthusiast to his core, he nurtured his love for hunting and fishing. Those who knew him will fondly remember him for his relentless passion for hunting. From ducks and deer to goose, quail, squirrel, coon, grouse and turkey. He often shared the story of his first deer kill in Hamilton County back in 1966, marking the beginning of a lifelong journey spent amid the joys of archery and trapping. An avid fisherman, he cherished the moments spent on the water, finding solace in the peacefulness of nature. His love for fishing was not just a hobby; it was a reflection of his character-patient, contemplative, and deeply connected to the world around him.
David was born into a family that he adored deeply, and his legacy is alive in the laughter and love of his children: Pam (late David) Diedling, David (Kim) Fulmer, Dan (Tracy) Fulmer, Dennis (the late Heather) Fulmer, Dean Fulmer, Doug Fulmer, late Marian (late Paul) Juppier and late Vicky (Jerry) Besterman. He also treasured the bond he shared with his siblings- late Frank (late Donna) Fulmer, late Mike (late Anna) Fulmer, Charley (Karen) Fulmer and John (Linda) Fulmer. David's steadfast spirit will continue in the hearts of an extraordinary brood, including his grandchildren: David (Loren) Diedling, Marla (Josh) Brunner, Angela (Dale) Hudman, Christy Weeks, Brittani (Brad) Schwab, Rebecca (Brad) Carroll, Kelsey (Gannon) Ritter, Bela Fulmer, Joe (Nicole) Fulmer, Ryan (fiancé Cassidy) Fulmer, Dustin Hollin, Stephanie (Sam) Fulmer- Sluss, Ethan Fulmer and AJ Fulmer; his great grandchildren: Nick, Nolan, Camryn, Dominic, Arlo, Ruby, Violet, Haley, Marissa, Shawna and Taya and his great great grandchildren: Waylon, Mia, Linney and Weston.
A devoted Eagle Scout and Cub Master at St. John's School Pack 641 for 23 years, David instilled a spirit of adventure in countless youths, reflecting his commitment to nurturing future generations. His dedication to Southern Ohio Dog and Game Protective Association (SODGPA) spanned nearly six decades, where he passionately contributed to stags, fishing derbies, and hunting events. David's community involvement extended to the Division of Wildlife, an organization he honored with his service.
As we celebrate David's life, we will gather for visitation at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (Dry Ridge) on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, where we will honor and reflect on the profound impact he made in our lives. Following the ceremony, we will lay him to rest, a final gesture to a man whose love for family and nature will forever flourish in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to honor David's legacy by making a memorial contribution to the Division of Wildlife at 2045 Morse Road, Columbus, OH 43229, a cause close to his heart.
David John Fulmer was a beacon of strength, a lover of the outdoors, and a devoted family man. Though he has taken his leave, his spirit remains alive in the stories we share and the warmth of family gatherings, reminding us all of the beauty found in living a life well-loved.
