David Bruce Garay entered this world on July 5, 1954, in Mt. Clemons, Michigan, born to Dorothy and Bert Garay. On November 2, 2025, surrounded by love, David peacefully went home to be with the Lord in Olympia, Washington, after courageously living with dementia for many years. His gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and steadfast love for those around him remained evident throughout his journey. David married the love of his life, the former Ms. Bette Jo Atchison, on October 16, 1998, in Littlerock, Washington. Together they built a warm and joyful life in Tumwater, where they lived for nearly twenty-five years. In 2023, David moved to Green Lakes Lodges of Lacey Memory Care, where he resided until his passing and where his caregivers came to appreciate his kind smile and gracious nature. A proud graduate of Olympia High School's Class of 1972, David continued his education at Washington State University, graduating in 1976. He went on to dedicate 42 years of service to the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries as a case reservist, retiring in June 2018. His work ethic, humility, and compassion earned him deep respect from colleagues and friends alike. David lived a life marked by devotion-devotion to his faith, his family, and the simple beauties of everyday life. He was an active member of The Church of Living Water in Olympia, where he and Bette Jo joyfully served as greeters, welcoming others with warmth and sincerity, He loved Jesus wholeheartedly and found peace in the outdoors, especially during his daily lunch-hour walks with his beloved dogs, Lucy and Daisy. He delighted in traveling, sharing adventures with Bette Jo, and creating memories that his family will treasure forever. Above all, David adored his family, cherishing every moment spent with them. David was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Dorothy Garay; his brother, Karl Garay; and his sister, Kathleen Garay. He is survived by his loving wife, Bette Jo Garay; his son, David Christian Daniel Garay; his sisters, Kimberly and Cynthia Garay; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, all of whom will continue to carry his legacy of kindness, faith, and love. A Celebration of Life honoring David will be held at The Church of Living Water in Olympia, Washington, on December 13, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. David's family warmly
