David Garner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Southern Funeral Home - Winnfield on Nov. 19, 2025.
David Anthony Garner, 59, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 17, 2025, following a tragic accident. He was born in Monroe, Louisiana, to James Luther Garner Jr. and Verna Marie Godwin Garner.

David grew up on the outskirts of Goldonna, Louisiana, and attended Calvin High School. A devoted fan of the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers, he also enjoyed fishing and playing sports throughout his life.

Though he worked in various roles over the years, David found his greatest fulfillment serving with the City's water treatment plant. His dedication, reliability, and strong work ethic were evident in everything he did.

David loved God and his family deeply. He was an ordained minister who served the Lord with unwavering devotion and a genuine heart for others. His faith shaped his life and left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Luther Garner Jr. and Verna Marie Godwin Garner; his brother, James Timothy Garner; and his great-nephew, Jace Michael Barber.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Nathaniel Garner; brothers Norvel Garner (Fonda), Vernon Garner, and Shannon Garner; sisters Angela Smiley (Edwin) and Debbie Garner; and a large and loving extended family of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family finds comfort in the words of Scripture:
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." - 2 Timothy 4:7

Friends may visit with the family at the Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield, La on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Following cremation David's ashes will be interred near his parents at the Goldonna Cemetery at a later date.
