David passed away peacefully at his residence on January 10, 2026 at the age of 91, surrounded by his family. He was born to the late James Claude and Helen (Wideman) Greene on June 11, 1934 in Bay City, Michigan. Dave was VP of Greene’s Gas Company for over 42 years. He very much loved the outdoors; especially hunting and fishing. He started deer hunting when he was 12 years old, only missing one season in 79 years. He and his wife, Mary, spent many summers at their camp on Anjigami Lake, Ontario, where they enjoyed over 40 years of friendship with neighbors, fishing, and snowmobiling. They rebuilt the cabin there, making it their own.
He was an avid snowmobiler traveling to many different places, being a part of the Cross-Country Snowriders Association since 1991. One of his favorite accomplishments was riding with the MichCanSka group. He rode 4,000 miles in 22 days from Sault St. Marie, Michigan to Tok, Alaska in 2010. Another long-distance snowmobile trip he took was riding from the Sault St. Marie to Gaspe` Peninsula, Quebec, in 2014. Between the two trips the group almost covered the entire North America Continent.
David is survived by his children, Sue (Bruce), Vickie, Tracy (Tim), Bryan (Tammy), Debbie (Ruben), Kellie (Darrell) and Graham (Cortney); stepsons, Dennis (Sam) and Michael. He was a beloved grandfather of 26 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings; Robert, Sharon (Larry), Donna, and Shirley (John). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Mary (Lord) Greene, son Paul, sister-in-law Peg, brother-in-law Jerry, two grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
In honoring David’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private inurnment will be held at a later date at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
