David was born June 4, 1938, in Canby, MN. He grew up helping his Dad on their family farm. He graduated from Canby High School in 1957. David was proud to be a Canby Lancer, playing basketball & football. Football was his favorite, #25 was a half-back & scored many touchdowns, being co-captain his senior year. After graduation, he enlisted in the Marines, where he was stationed in San Diego at Camp Pendleton for two years.
David met the love of his life and future wife, Ruth, at a dance at the fairgrounds in Canby. The leaders of the band that night were David's father, Eddy and his brother, Tom – The Eddy Thomas Rhythm Band. This would be the beginning of their life together, full of music and dancing at ballrooms across the Midwest. David and Ruth were married April 20, 1963, at St. Peter & Paul's Catholic Church in Ivanhoe, MN. The newlyweds began their marriage living in Minneapolis. In 1968, they moved to Tyler, MN. where David owned and operated "Dave's Barbershop" and was the local Oak Grove Dairy milkman. It's so fitting as David's favorite show of all time was The Andy Griffith Show.
In 1977, Ruth and David moved to Richfield, MN. where David worked at the St. Paul Ford Plant. In Richfield, they lived in "New Ford Town," which was near the MSP airport. When the airport expanded in 1995, they had to re-locate and moved to Rosemount, MN. to be closer to their children and grandchildren. After retiring, they moved to Farmington, MN. to be even closer to their family.
In retirement, David and Ruth's favorite thing to do was spend time attending their grandchildren's many activities. At every event, they always proudly wore their Farmington Tigers gear. David also enjoyed volunteering his time at the church, especially ushering.
He loved nature, feeding the birds & other wildlife, growing many roses, planting & caring for a wide variety of trees & his tomato plants.
David was easy going, a great listener, always so warm & loving to everyone he met. Humor was a big part of who he was, always telling funny stories & jokes, making everyone laugh, ever since he was a kid, up until his final hours.
David will always be remembered for his love & devotion to his family, his positive attitude, sense of humor, selflessness & unwavering faith. His smile was contagious-he had a smile on his face at all times, even until the end.
The Celebration of Life service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 21, 2024 at Farmington Lutheran Church, 20600 Akin Rd., Farmington. There will be a visitation at the church prior to Monday's service from 9-11:00 a.m. Interment, Farmington Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
