David E. Gums, age 70 of Litchfield, MN died suddenly on Wednesday January 11, 2023 at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. A Celebration of Life will be held from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday January 17, 2023 at Johnson Hagglund Funeral and Cremation in Litchfield, MN. Interment will be held at Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield, MN.
David Emory Gums, the son of David Eyerly and Grace (Gums) Zahn was born on May 2, 1952 in Savannah, IL. He was united in marriage to Diane Weirens in St. Cloud, MN. He worked at Ivan Mies's Salvage for many years, among other places and loved to work on cars and to tinker with many different projects. Dave considered himself a "Jack of all trades and master of nothing." He could do anything that he set his mind to and would help anyone if he possibly could. He was a huge lover of animals with an emphasis on cats. He led a simple life and loved spending time at home with his kids.
Dave is survived by his wife Diane of Litchfield, MN; children David Gums of Litchfield, MN, Melissa Gums of Litchfield, MN, Dana (Chris) Walters of Woodward, IA, Mandy (Jeffry) Garry of Buffalo, MN, Jenise (Randy) Tucker of Rochelle, IL, Tina Gums, Cole J. Gums and Amy (Jim) Karsten of Fergus Falls, MN; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and siblings Frank Zahn Jr. of Lanark, IL, Brenda Messenger (Zahn) of Lanark, IL, Samuel Gums of Chadwick, IL, Christine Zahn of Lanark, IL, Ida Merkel (Zahn) of Chadwick, IL, Richard Eyerly of Alabama and Jessy Eyerly.
He was preceded in death by his father David Eyerly; mother Grace Zahn (Gums); sisters Norma McColley and Julie (Eyerly) Watts; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
