David Joe Guzman, a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi, at the age of 63. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of countless family and friends who cherished his kind spirit and unwavering dedication.
A lifelong resident of Madison, Mississippi, David's life was a testament to his strong character and commitment to his community. He graduated from Madison Ridgeland High School in 1980, leaving his mark as Class President and Class Favorite. A gifted athlete, he excelled as an All-County linebacker and played baseball for the Madison High School team. His academic achievements were equally impressive, reflected in his membership in the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and the Boys Club of America.
He continued his academic pursuits at Delta State University, earning a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.
Following graduation, David embarked on a successful career in accounting. He began his professional journey auditing for Lamar Life Insurance, he married Freda Adcock Guzman. David accepted a position at Methodist Rehab in 1995, where he served with distinction as Controller until his retirement in 2020.
David's passions extended far beyond the accounting world. He was an avid outdoorsman, finding solace and enjoyment in hunting and fishing on his land in Lexington, Mississippi. A devoted fan of Mississippi State baseball and the New Orleans Saints, he followed his beloved teams with unwavering enthusiasm.
He is survived by his son, E-3 Grant David Guzman, United States Navy, and his wife, Emily, of Magee, Mississippi; grandson, Noah Ray Guzman; and a grandson on the way; his mother, Faye Truitt Bruner of Ridgeland; his brother, Jimmy Guzman and his wife Louanne; and his sister, Jennifer King, of Ridgeland.
He is preceded in death by his father, Roy Guzman. A visitation celebrating David's life will be held Thursday, June 5, at 1:00 PM, at Sebrell Funeral Home, with funeral service to follow at 3 PM. Burial will be held at Jessamine Cemetery.
David's kindness, generosity, and infectious enthusiasm will be deeply cherished by all who knew him. He will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to family, friends, and community, and his legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
