David Paul Hackert

December 21, 1936 – August 21, 2025

David Paul Hackert, age 88, of Buffalo, Wyoming, passed away on August 21, 2025, at the Johnson County Healthcare Center in Buffalo. Graveside services will be held at Willow Grove Cemetery on Tuesday, September 2nd at 9:30 AM with Pastor Nathan Nash officiating. A pie social will be held at Summit Wesleyan Church following the graveside services. All are welcome.

Born on December 21, 1936, in Denver, Colorado, to William M. and Mildred I. Hackert, David spent his early years on the Klondike Ranch before moving into town. He graduated from Buffalo High School and began his studies at Sheridan College, eventually earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Southern Oregon State. Despite his travels, he always found his way back home to Buffalo.

David was a man of many talents and trades-sheepherder, poet, and artist. He followed his passions across Wyoming, North Dakota, Colorado, and Idaho, always grounded by a deep understanding of the land he loved.

His interests were as expansive as the landscapes he painted. He had a deep passion for organic gardening, poetry, and art, often capturing the beauty of the Red Hills of Wyoming on canvas. David was also dedicated to preserving his family's legacy as early homesteaders in the region.

A proud veteran, David served his country in the United States Army.

He will be remembered for his independent spirit, quiet strength, creativity, and unwavering faith in the God who created the land he cherished.

David is survived by his daughter, Jessica, and her husband, Frank Markink; his grandsons, Josiah, Jonah, and Joshuah; and three great-grandchildren: August, Westley, and Marigold, and our dear cousin Tammy Miller.
