Obituary of David Louis Hammann
David Louis Hammann, 83, of Carlinville, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, July 27th, 2024, at Lakeside Health Care in Carlinville, IL.
David was born January 4th, 1941, in Gillespie, IL, the son of Louis and Josephine (Polo) Hammann. David graduated from Gillespie High School with the class of 1959. He served in the military as an Army Reservist. He married Mary Louise Paynter on June 7th, 1963 in Missouri. They have three children, Dave Allen, Jolene Renee, and Carla Jean. Later, David moved to California, where he met Dee Dee Beaman, and they married in 1981.
Over the years, David worked as an auto mechanic and coal miner at Monterey Coal Mine. Later, he owned and operated Hammann Construction and was a heavy machine operator.
After returning to Carlinville from California, David was an active member of the Lions Club, served as an Elk member, and was an Elk veteran chairman. He was also a supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project and was president of the Garden Tractor Pull Association.
His greatest moments of joy was his passion for playing Santa Claus. His special love was spending time with children, grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and family.
David was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dee Dee, and brother-in-law, Don Elliott.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024, 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville, IL.
Graveside Services will be conducted at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery.
David is survived by his son, David Allen (Laura) Hammann of Collinsville, IL; 2 daughters, Jolene Renee Little of Carlinville, IL, and Carla Jean Hammann of Carlinville, IL; 4 grandchildren, Brandon (Taylor) Little, Devan (Amberlee) Little, Luke (Jess) Hammann, and Emily (Mike) Sickler; six great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Carolyn Elliott of Godfrey, IL, and Connie (Ken) Reid of Carlinville, IL; several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Loveless Park in Carlinville, IL.
