David Michael Hankins

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of David Michael Hankins, who left us on December 16, 2025. Born on April 6, 1948, in Lansing, Michigan, to the late Jack and Ruby (White) Hankins, he was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. David is survived by his devoted wife of over fifty-four years, Kathy (Edmonds); cherished son, Nicholas Hankins; daughter-in-law, Janel Hankins; and his treasured grandchildren, Carter, Jocelyn, Lydia, and Luke Hankins. David was preceded in death by son, Chad Hankins; siblings, Jack Hankins, Tom Hankins, Dan Hankins, Marge Darnell, Joyce Cypher, Irene Plunkett.

David's life was marked by service and dedication. After graduating from high school, he began his journey in the workforce at the age of 18 with General Motors. His commitment to his country led him to serve in the Army, where he proudly served during the Vietnam War. For his bravery, he was awarded the Bronze Star. After returning home, David resumed his career at GM, ultimately retiring after an impressive thirty-eight years.

A man of many passions, David loved playing golf, enjoyed deer hunting, and was an ardent supporter of University of Michigan sports. Above all, he was a family man at heart. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren, who were the light of his life.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, December 20, 2025, 11:00 am at St. Michael Catholic Church, Grand Ledge by Father Robert Irish. Rite of Committal with military honors will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, where David will be laid to rest in the company of his loved ones. Visitation will be at the church Saturday from 10-11:00 am.
