David Lawrence Hardy, 95, of Gastonia, NC passed away January 8, 2026 at Morningside of Gastonia. He was born June 12, 1930, in Manchester, NH, the son of the late James F. Hardy and Evelyn S. Hardy.
David served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1954. He worked as a chemical and electrical technician for DuPont in Delaware. After retirement and moving to NC, he enjoyed traveling with his wife in their RV. David was a member of Crowders Creek ARP Church where he served as a deacon.
He is survived by daughters Susan Melchiorre and Nancy Jones (Gene); grandchildren Karen Melchiorre, John Melchiorre (Sandi), Laura Jones, Lisa Jones Cook (David); 2 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Sylvia Lomeli; niece Virginia Hardy; along with several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elinor Hardy of 64 years; his brothers, Lewis E. Hardy; Theodore F. Hardy; and son-in-law Jack Melchiorre.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the Morningside of Gastonia staff for their love, kindness and passionate care to David for over seven years. Additionally, the family expresses sincere gratitude to the hospice staff of Carolina Caring for their love and supportive care to David.
Memorials can be made to Crowders Creek ARP Church Cemetery Fund, 207 Crowders Creek Church Road, Gastonia, NC 28052.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 am, Friday, January 16, 2026, at Crowders Creek ARP Church Cemetery, Reverend Jason Strong officiating.
