A graveside service for David Gurney Hepfer, 88, will be held Saturday, September 13th at 2pm, at Brookside Cemetery, Plessis, NY
David “Gurney” Hepfer, 88, passed away early Saturday morning at Pinehaven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Philmont, NY.
He was born on January 8,1937 in Antwerp, NY, the son of William and Buelah Robinson Hepfer. He graduated from Alexandria Central High School and entered the U.S. Airforce, serving from 1956-1960.
In addition to being a self-employed electrician for most of his life, Gurney also worked for the US Postal Service, was a tractor-trailer and bus driver, and worked as a private hauler. Marriages to Peggy Shoulette and Barbara Walts ended in divorce.
Gurney enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Rainbow Hunting Club. He loved the Adirondacks, traveling, and spending time with family. He loved to watch old western movies and passed time in his older years with word-search puzzles.
He is survived by his children, Carmel (Tim) Robinson, LaFargeville, NY; Michael Hepfer (companion Shannon Pianka), Camden, NY; Hollie (Dwayne) Boyer, Valatie, NY; Aaron (Tina) Hepfer, Clifton Park, NY; and six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his companion Marie Bull, Chatham, NY, whom he visited often or otherwise visited via “Alexa” throughout the day, as if they were together. Siblings William Hepfer, Louie Hepfer, and Lila Hepfer Wallace predeceased him.
Calling hours will be held at Costello Funeral Home, Alexandria Bay, on Saturday March 29th from 1-3 pm. A reception will follow calling hours at the Alexandria Bay Fire Hall. Spring burial with military honors will be held at Brookside Cemetery in Plessis on a date to be announced.
Memorial contributions may be made in David’s name to the Plessis Volunteer Fire Department at 26038 CR-3, Suite 2, Plessis, NY 13675.
