It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of David Spencer Hicks, age 63, of Zebulon, North Carolina. David passed away surrounded by his family, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity that touched everyone who knew him. He was truly one of a kind, known for his dynamic personality, exceptional sense of humor, and unwavering encouragement of others. David never met a stranger and brought joy to countless lives.
Born in Spring Hope, North Carolina, David attended Southern Nash High School, then Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College), where he studied business. His career began at Wachovia Bank, then Regional Acceptance, before founding his own company, North State Acceptance. With his remarkable business acumen and ambition, David grew the company before selling it and beginning an early retirement. Years later, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found Oak Tree Finance with his son, Zack. Beyond his professional achievements, David cherished spending time with his family and hosting gatherings at his home, which served as a hub of camaraderie and celebration.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Lois and Spencer Hicks; his brother-in-law Martin Strickland; and his father-in-law Tommy Strickland.
