Nancy Burroughs Stout

1935 - 2026

Nancy Jane Burroughs Stout, (90) died February 5, 2026. She is survived by her son, Charles Wayne Stout, her cousins Linda Poole FitzSimons, Arlene Poole Pope, Carolyn Roberts Baker, nephews Kenneth and Michael Burroughs and several other cousins. She was proceeded in death by her father, Jacob Dallas Sommerville Burroughs and her mother, Grace Roberts Burroughs, as well as two half-sisters, Thelma Burroughs Jones and Elsie Burroughs Skubish and two half-brothers, Lawrence Burroughs and Dallas Burroughs Jr. (Dal).



Nancy graduated from Broughton High School and Meredith College where she majored in piano and organ. She received the Paderewski Medal for 13 years participation in the National Piano Players Auditions. She taught piano for 3 years in the Wake County Schools, but her longest career was as organist for 38 years at Forest Hills Baptist Church, as well as working in the church office. She also worked for the NC Wildlife Commission. She was an avid bird watcher and feeder of many birds, cats and raccoons throughout the years. She also worked for the Episcopal Diocese of NC. Nancy played the organ for hundreds of weddings, funerals, and other occasions over her long career as a musician.

A Funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, February 12, 2026, at L. Harold Poole's Funeral Home at 944 Old Knightdale Rd, Knightdale, NC. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh



The family will receive friends and family 10-10:45am at the funeral home.
