MANCHESTER AND DEXTER-David Lee Hodgkins, 58, died, October 18, 2025, in Manchester.
David was born August 11, 1967, in New Britain, Connecticut, to Delmas Leroy Hodgkins and Donna (Thomas) Hodgkins. The Hodgkins family moved back to Maine, to Dexter, when David was 12 and in the 7th grade. He was so lucky to join what would be the DRHS class of 1985. In his youth, David was an avid boy scout. He reached the rank of Life Scout and was a senior patrol leader. He enjoyed many scout adventures with his troop led by his Scout Master Gordon Canning. During the summer of '81, David represented the State of Maine at the National Boy Scout Jamboree in Williamsburg VA. His mother notes that although she had given him many postcards, she never heard from him for the whole 17 days.
During his high school days he participated in the band and chorus and took part in several musicals. One of his favorite activities was being the manager of the basketball teams. Also during high school and college days, David and his best friend, Greg, broadcasted local basketball games with WDME radio. David had a wonderful broadcasting voice and enjoyed doing that very much. He graduated with his class in 1985. After high school, David attended the University of Maine, Orono. He made several special friends there and had the time of his life! He enjoyed attending UMaine sporting events, especially tailgating before UMaine football games with his friends.
David always had a love for cars and worked at several car dealerships including Brothers Chevrolet, Linnehan Credit Now, Bangor Dodge and Hartleys in Newport. He also worked at Beneficial Finance, LL Bean, Great Falls Marketing and lastly at CMP.
Later in life David learned to play the bass guitar. He was asked to join the band of his guitar teacher, Tom Dube. He was thrilled to be a member of the JLD Project. For the past 15 years he has played bass for the band and enjoyed many experiences with them. But most of all he loved his family and the family camp on Ambejejus Lake. It was his favorite place. Many good times were enjoyed with family and friends there.
He was predeceased by his father, Delmas L. Hodgkins; his uncle, Robert E Hodgkins Jr.; and his cousin Dawn Davis.
He is survived by his loving mother, Donna Hodgkins; his sister, Darlene and husband Roy Ulrickson III; his nephews: Roy Andrew Ulrickson IV and Thomas Stevens Hodgkins Ulrickson and his fiancé Danika Stock; aunts and uncles: Harvey Hodgkins, Betty Lane, Alice Vanadestine and her husband Leroy, Philip Ham, Darlene Charrier and her husband Wayne, and Rochelle Ham-Oelrich and her husband Jay; cousins: Roberta, Alan, Jennifer, Portia, Amber, Lee, Jeff, Levi, Matthew, Abbie, and Caitlin; and his very best friend of 46 years, Greg Leavitt and the members of his band, The JLD Project.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield.
