David Lee Hornung passed away on Sunday morning, November 2, 2025, at the age of 84. David was born on April 2, 1941, in Connersville, the son of Norman and Mary Hedrick Hornung.
He was a 1959 graduate of Connersville High School and went on to take classes at Earlham College. On November 9, 1960, he was united in marriage to the former Charlene Mercier. They have shared 65 years together prior to his death and were blessed with 3 children.
David retired from Roots Blower after 40 plus years. He also farmed for over 20 years and along with his wife, ran the Jessop's Concession Stand for 11 years. He was a member of Central Christian Church since 1984 and Warren Lodge # 15 F. & A.M. for 45 years, where he had served as Past Master and was a member of the Scottish Rite. David was also a member of the Eastern Star.
David loved to spend time golfing and traveling. His passion was his 1960 Chevy Impala that he restored and displayed at cars shows. He valued the time he spent with his family most.
In addition to his wife, Charlene, his love and memories will be cherished by his daughter, Kimberly K. Carroll; son Brian Hornung; brother, Gary (Carol) Hornung; grandchildren, Lauren (Andrew) Phillips, Andrea (Adam) Manias, Rachel (John) Davis, Jacob (Paige) Hornung, and Joseph (Emily) Carroll; great grandchildren, Ava, Alexander, Amelia, Jude, Lois, Franklin, Eliza, Gideon, Logan, Claire, Henry, Coen, Addison and Alban, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Steven Hornung, brother Robert K. Hornung and his sister, Delores Ault.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am at Urban Winkler Funeral Home, 513 W 8th Street, Connersville on Friday November 7, 2025, with Pastor Greg Marvel and dear friend Bill Flannigan, Jr. officiating. Masonic and Eastern Star services will be held at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will be at Dale Cemetery. Friends and family may gather to share memories on Thursday evening from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made at the funeral home to Central Christian Church or to the Warren Lodge #15 F. & A. M.
