RYE BEACH, NH/AYER, MA; David R."Ike" Hudlin, 90, of Rye Beach, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Sunday, November 27, 2022.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Christine V. (Hurley) Hudlin; two sons, David J. Hudlin and his wife, Jan, of Portsmouth, NH, Robert Hudlin of Ayer; two daughters, Susan C. Hudlin and her husband Tom Schiller of Ayer, Melissa A. Hudlin of Portsmouth, NH; five grandchildren, Matthew D. Hudlin, Andrew J. Hudlin, Kaidan J. Hudlin, Jacob D. Schiller and Cole T. Schiller.
He was the brother of the late Leo W. Hudlin, James N. Hudlin and Mary A. Crickett all of Ayer.
David was born in Ayer, April 29, 1932, a son of Wilbur L. and Lottie (Sherman) Hudlin and resided over sixty years in Ayer before retiring to Rye Beach in 2000. He was a 1951 graduate of Ayer High School and continued his education at Coyne Electrical School in Boston.
David was very active in sports in his youth and was recognized in his senior year at Ayer High School as Most Outstanding Athlete in basketball, football and baseball and was awarded the Walter Dancause Memorial Trophy that year. As a devoted Father, he coached his son's Little League teams and in 1972 he led the Ace's Little League Baseball team to a championship.
An avid golfer, David was a member of Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, NH. He had a passion for music and had an extensive record collection of his favorite artists.
David and his wife Christine loved to frequent Florida for the warmth and Quebec for its culture and cuisine.
He had attended St. Mary's Church in Ayer and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Sandy Pond School Association.
During the Korean Conflict, David served his country for four years in the United States Navy from 1952-1956 and had been stationed on the USS Peregrine # 373 minesweeper ship.
For over 30 years David worked as an electrician for the Union Local IBEW # 96 before retiring in 1995. During that time, he worked on several significant projects including the Burlington Mall, Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant, Fitchburg Paper and the Scott Paper Company in Maine. Prior to that, he held several positions with various local electrical contractors.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Monday, December 12, 2022, at St. Mary's Church, 31 Shirley Street, Ayer. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery.
