David Hufendick Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by James & Gahr Mortuary - Salem on Jan. 17, 2026.
David Kim Hufendick, of Salem, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home with his wife by his side. He was born on August 29, 1955, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Herbert and Patsy (Basse) Hufendick.

David was first united in marriage to Berniece Bauer and this union was blessed with two sons. The couple later divorced. On October 27, 2014, David married Rhonda Hamilton, and together they shared a blended family of six children. David and Rhonda truly lived a lifetime of memories in their eleven years of marriage. During the past three years, Rhonda lovingly served as his devoted caretaker while he battled illness.

Like his father and brother, David spent his entire working career as a Union sheet metal worker with Local #36 out of St. Louis, Missouri, working in the heating and cooling industry. He was proud of his trade and the work he did.

David loved the outdoors, especially being on the water. He enjoyed boating and fishing, and before moving to Salem, he and Rhonda lived in Arkansas near Bull Shoals Lake. There, they maintained 35 acres of land-work David embraced wholeheartedly, often heading out with his Kubota tractor and working long past dark, enjoying every minute of it.

David was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

David is survived by his wife, Rhonda Hamilton, of Salem, Missouri; his sons, James Hufendick (Elizabeth) of Harrison, Arkansas, and Kyle Hufendick, of Arkansas; step-children, Mason Elms, of Cameron, Missouri, Kylie Kloeppel (Lance), of Meta, Missouri, and Hayden James, of Vienna, Missouri; grandchildren, Xavier Hufendick, Elaine Kloeppel, and Lawson Kloeppel; his brother, Doug Hufendick, of St. Louis, Missouri; his sister, Donna Hufendick, of St. Louis, Missouri; The mother of his children, Berniece Bauer; and a host of extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Herbert and Patsy Hufendick, David was preceded in death by his step-son, Zachary Shelton.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Salem Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary, with Rev. Lloyd Mattocks officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the chapel on Monday prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. until service time.
