It is with profound sadness that the Huskisson family announces the passing of David Henry Huskisson. David "Husky" Huskisson passed on Monday, February 26, 2024, mere days before his 82nd birthday, from complications related to his long and courageous battle with debilitating heart and lung illness.
David was born on March 3, 1942, in Pekin, IL to Irma and David Huskisson. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1960 as a multi-sport athlete, he moved to Albuquerque to attend the University of New Mexico before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1962. It was during this time that he met and married Pamela Joyce Holtkamp, the love of his life, in 1963. Their happy union spanned six decades and was blessed with the birth of their daughter Natalie and later station at Hickam AFB in Hawaii. After returning to Albuquerque in 1969 they adopted their four-day old son Bryan to complete their family.
Following seven years of dedicated service as ground support for C-130 aircraft, David stayed in Albuquerque and pursued an electronics degree and upon graduation, was recruited by Sandia National Laboratories. Thus began a distinguished 40+ year career as a metallurgy expert specializing in weapons analysis as a scanning electron microscopist.
Outside of his professional life, David was a devoted father and grandfather who found joy in coaching various sports teams for over 25 years. He coached Little League softball, club soccer teams, Junior Varsity Boys Soccer at Eldorado High School, and was the inaugural head coach of La Cueva High School boys' soccer team. In 1987, he organized the first NoVar City Soccer Tournament.
David is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Pamela Huskisson; daughter Natalie Huskisson Eisenhart; son Bryan Huskisson; grandchildren Kirsten Lopez (Tiff) and Trevor Huskisson; siblings Mary Ann Garcia (Jerry), Tommy Joe (Angela), Diane Turner (Mick); along with several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father David Huskisson, mother Irma K. Ellis, stepfather Bill Joe Ellis, siblings Margret Dean Friend (Gary), Bobby Joe Ellis; and nephew Richard Lee Friend.
Funeral services honoring David's life will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024, at Gates of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Albuquerque at 7999 Wyoming Boulevard NE. The family kindly requests that donations be made to the Animal Humane New Mexico (615 Virginia St. SE 87108) in remembrance of David Huskisson in lieu of sending flowers.
May his memory live on through those who knew him well.
