David Eugene Illbeck, known for his giving nature and his love for the classics; classic rock, classic cars, and classic good times, passed away on February 16, 2025, at McLaren-Flint after a cardiac event. Born on September 26, 1961, in Janesville, Wisconsin, to parents Dennis Eugene Illbeck and Nancy Lorraine (Bilz) Illbeck, Dave's early years were filled with the warmth of a close-knit family and the charm of his hometown.
Dave's life was one of dedication and hard work. After graduating from Parker High School in 1980, he embarked on a career that would define much of his life. Retiring as an Iron Worker, a job that showcased his strength and commitment to craftsmanship. Dave also spent a few years at Terex in Durand, where he was known for his reliability and expertise. His work ethic was further exemplified through his faithful service as an Amtrak employee, where he found joy and purpose.
Beyond his professional life, his spirit was one of generosity. He extended this through the Gift of Life Donation, giving others a chance at life even as his own came to a close, just as he had done before with being a blood donor who had given over 2 gallons of blood to help others in their time of need. Dave's love for his community was evident in the time he spent working around the Durand Depot, where he became a familiar and friendly face to all who passed by.
A lifelong Packers fan, Dave's spirited nature was infectious, and his enthusiasm for his team was a source of joy and friendly banter. He was known to occasionally dance on the bar and be a great source of laughter and humor at the 206. He was also known as Uncle Dave to many in the Durand community, a testament to his warm, thoughtful nature and the way he embraced his role in the lives of his nieces, nephews, and the extended family of the Durand community.
Dave is survived by his loving mother, Nancy; his sister, Kim (David) Lind; his nieces who will remember him as Uncle Money Bags, Kelsey (Jon) Stanek, Kinsey Craig, and Jacie Lind; and his great-niece and nephews, Bram, Beau, Briggs, Mason, and Madelyn Jo. His presence will be deeply missed by the unending list of family and friends in the Durand community. He was predeceased by his father, Dennis, and his grandparents, who have now welcomed him with open arms.
Those who knew Dave will remember him as a friendly, thoughtful, and spirited man. His ability to connect with people from all walks of life, his readiness to lend a hand, and his unwavering commitment to his family and work, as well as his love for the Lord, are the legacies he leaves behind. Dave's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the enduring strength of community ties.
As we say goodbye to David, we celebrate the life he lived and the countless ways he touched the lives of those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him, and his stories will be told with smiles, laughter, and fondness for years to come. Dave's journey through life was one filled with all the classics and twinkle in his eye!
A celebration of Dave's life will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m at Our 206 bar located at 206 W. Main St., Durand, MI 48429.
An additional celebration will be announced in Janesville, Wisconsin, at a later date.
David and his family are being cared for by Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel.

Full condolences to the family. I have many fond memories of High School Church camp at Rock River Christian camp back in the '70s and '80s with David.

This is such sad news to hear.Im in shock!! David was such an awesome guy who was so willing to help others. He helped HIS cousin Richard( my late husband) and I paint our fitness center. He was always there to help any way he could. We would pray together for our children and reconciliation for them to come back into our life. Parents aren't perfect but we as a parent have unconditional love and love that was so deep that no one could rip it from our heart. I will miss. You David and our talks. Love ya Suzie Franklin

Dave was such a wonderful man. Always willing to do anything for anyone. Always wanting to put a smile on everyone's face. So many times he's helped me with diapers or anything small for my son. He was basically an adopted Uncle! He adored watching my boy grow, even from a distance. Dave always said my son will be the best Detroit Tiger's pitcher there is. Dave loved spoiling people. So many times he would show up to my job bearing gifts such as Harley Davidson gear and Tiger's gear along with smell-good things like candles! He showed up to every birthday party or event he could make it to! The world lost a great man on the 17th. You will never be forgotten, sir. I'll be there to cheers a bud light with you one day up in those clouds! I'll make sure to sing Wynonna Judd extra loud for you to hear!
