David Ray Johnson, known to many as Ray, passed away peacefully at his home in Andersonville, Tennessee, on August 25, surrounded by his loving family.

Ray was a dedicated scientist with a PhD, spending much of his career at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he contributed to important research and development in his field. Outside of work, he enjoyed the quiet pleasures of life-time with family, activities at home and on Norris Lake. A man of deep Christian faith, Ray lived a life of integrity, curiosity, and service.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Susan, also known as Skipper, his children, David Johnson (Kaori) of Indiana, Doug Johnson (Shannon) of Knoxville, and Becky Johnson (Pat) of Knoxville.

He is survived by his grandchildren - Rachel Cox, Daniel Johnson, Michael Johnson (Cassie), Sala Johnson, Rena Johnson (Dylan), Sam Ash (Sima), and Sophia Tawil (Joseph); and great-grandchildren - Lennon and Lucy Cox, Capri Johnson, Yehuda and Kobe Ash, and Judah and Danny Tawil.

He is also survived by his brother Bobby Johnson of South Carolina, sister Carol Cox of Alabama, and brother Bryan Smith of Texas.

Ray's family finds comfort in the legacy he leaves behind-a life marked by love, faith, and quiet strength.

Services will be held at a later date and announced by Holley Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Norris United Methodist Church in his memory.
