David Daniel "Dog" Jones Jr.

David D. Jones, Jr., 77, of Sims Drive, Union, SC transitioned on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at his residence. David, affectionally known as "Brother" to his family and "Dog" to his friends was born December 29, 1944, to the late David D. Jones, Sr. and Aggie Tucker Jones.
David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend.
David was the husband of Betty Jean Robinson Jones and to this union, two children were born.
David was a member of Saint Paul Baptist Church where he was a former Trustee and a former member of the Adult Choir.
David was educated in the Union County School System and was a 1965 graduate of Sims High School where he was a member of the football team and a member of the school choir. He was inducted in the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005 for his accomplishments in high school football. He was an avid hunter, golfer, fisherman, and a Carolina Panther fan. He loved cooking and his favorite dish was hash. He was called "The Monster" of the grill for his cooking of barbeque ribs.
David was employed as a textile worker having worked at several plants until he retired on disability.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Jackson Rice and Robert Rice.
Left to cherish fond memories is his wife of fifty-seven years, Betty Jean Robinson Jones of the home; one son, Darryl Lamar Jones, Sr. of Union, SC; one daughter, Debra Patrice Jones Thompson (Eugene) of Union, SC; seven grandchildren, Brandon Edwards (Jasia) of Spartanburg, SC, Jordan Thompson of Union, SC, Brittany K. Jones of Spartanburg, SC, Taquanya D. Jones of Greenville, SC, Iysha Russell of Spartanburg, SC, Darryl L. Jones, Jr. of Rock Hill, SC, and De'Vette R. Thompson of Union, SC; eleven great-grandchildren; one brother, James Jones of Athens, GA; two sisters, Sallie Jones Smith (Sam) of Greenville, SC and Modestine Jones Rice of Union, SC; two aunts, Ruby Tucker Jeter of Carlisle, SC and Nancy Tucker of Philadelphia, PA; one uncle, Sam Harrison of Columbia, SC; two brothers-in-law, Earl Robinson of Union, SC and Sam Smith of Greenville, SC; three sisters-in-law, Effie Ruth Robinson, Arrie Robinson, and Doris R. Rice all of Union, SC; a devoted friend since high school, Emmitt Dawkins of Union, SC; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
Funeral services will be held 1:00 Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Saint Paul Baptist Church. The Reverend Dr. A. L. Brackett will officiate. The body will be placed in the church at 12 noon to await the hour of service. Interment will follow in the Rosemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home.
