David Michael Jones, 72, of Indianapolis, passed away on January 22, 2025. He was born on December 6, 1952 to James R. Jones and Glenna Maxine (Wix) Jones in Beech Grove, Indiana. David grew up in Allen Springs, Kentucky, where he had learned to drive a tractor at the age of 5 and raised ducks, cows and pigs. He loved the land and took advantage of the hills, hollars, springs and caves. He was truly a wild child. James and Glenna moved the family to Indianapolis when David was 7 years old. David graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1970. He became a father to Michael Cooper Jones, Elizabeth Ann (Jones) Jackson, and Katelyn Rose (Jones) Mathews by his 32nd birthday. David was a generous and loving father. He would often go without- to provide what little he could afford. David passed up a promotion out of state to stay close to his kids. He enjoyed sharing with them his love of his boyhood stomping grounds, the stars, reading, and history. He loved anything fast and worked as a car mechanic. Between nursing a racing injury, or working on a transmission, he enjoyed motocross and drag racing. David worked in several industries. He started working at the age of 14 as a bag boy at Deer Creek Grocery, later working his way up to store manager. David worked in the heat treat plant at Link Belt, the assembly line at Western Electric making corded house phones and later became a realtor. Finally, he would follow his Uncle Phil into the stone and tile trades. David professed his faith in Jesus Christ in 2009, and we believe he is with Him now. Meeting him there are his grandparents, his parents and his granddaughter Isabel Rose Jackson. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Survivors include his son, Micheal Cooper (Susan) Jones; daughters, Elizabeth Ann (Jones) Jackson and Katelyn Rose (Mitchell) Mathews; grandchildren, Parker Allen, Greyson Michael, Evan Robert, Elijah Ray and Kora Mae; sister, Cynthia (Danny) Wall; aunts, Mabel, Judy (Don), Virginia Ann, Sharon (Ricky) and Karen (Steve); uncle, Charles (Leatrice); niece and nephews, Danielle Wall, Scott (Sarah) Wall, Tony (Kendra) Wall and Jason (Missy) Wall; several cousins and great nieces/nephews.
