Lauren Jon (Thomas) Messer, 69, of Amo, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025. A beloved daughter, wife, sister, and friend, Lauren was a true Indiana native who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Born and raised in Fillmore, Indiana, Lauren graduated from South Putnam High School. She was a woman of many talents and passions, reflected in her deverse and fulfilling career path. She began her working life as a volunteer at Greencastle Ambulance Services, which led her to becoming a full-time EMT. She embraced a new adventure, moving to Florida to manage a resort, where she brought her warmth and dedication to a new community. Her compassion and desire to help others also extended to her work as a licensed massage therapist.
After her husband, David Messer, passed away, Lauren returned to her Indiana roots to be closer to her family and as she would often say, to "keep an eye on Dad." Her greatest passion was gardening, and she found immense joy and purpose working at Cox's Plant Farm. She loved sharing her extensive knowledge with both customers and co-workers, and her green thumb brought beauty to every life she touched.
Lauren is survived by her loving father, Mort Thomas; her sisters, Denise (Ralph) Pursell, Susan (Bob) Coffey, Carol (Brian) Flynn; her brother, Tim (Wendy) Thomas. She was preceded in death by her mother, Peggy Thomas and husband, David Messer.
A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home (106 Shaw St. Plainfield, IN 46168) beginning at 6:00 p.m., where family and friends may visit from 5:00 p.m. until time of services.
