Frances "Louise" Messer

Frances "Louise" Norton Messer, 88, of Marshall, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.

Born July 12, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Chapel and Anna Rice Norton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Sherrie Messer, and her brother, Robert "Shorty" Norton.

Louise married the love of her life David Messer on October 5, 1957 in Greenville, SC. She worked at Vanderbilt Shirt Company for 5 years, and Mills Manufacturing for 10 years, before settling in at Square D where she worked for 26 years before retiring in March of 1999. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and loved quilting, sewing, crocheting and knitting. That love was shared with others as she made and donated several hats and scarves for Messino Cancer Center patients. Louise was a member of Dry Branch Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 68 years, David Messer; two sons, Steve Messer and Michael Messer (Pam), both of Fairview, NC; daughter, Tena Messer (Geoffrey Gill) of Marshall, NC; two grandchildren, Miranda Creasman and Michaela Haven (Jayke); three great grandchildren: Logan, Haileigh and Hadlee Creasman; sister, Mary Wright of Swannanoa, NC; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Services with Pastors Randy Roberts and Jimmy Dean Hensley officiating. Pallbearers will be Jayke Haven, Randy Wright, Kenny Wright, Logan Creasman, Troy Gherke and Geoffrey Gill. Interment will follow at Kirk Payne Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, March 21st from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.
