David Kimbrell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel on Dec. 22, 2023.
David Allen Kimbrell was born in Staunton Virginia on June 25, 1954 to Martha and Vaughn Kimbrell who both preceded him in death. David passed from this world at 3:45 pm on Dec. 14, 2023 surrounded by family after a 4 month battle with cancer.
David is survived by his sister Laura Vines and her husband Jim Vines and 2 nieces and their families: his step mother Carolyn Kimbrell all from Virginia. He was survived by his wife of 27 years Paula Kimbrell; 3 step sons and their wives Christopher and Angela McKenzie, Michael and Amanda McKenzie and Steven and Danielle McKenzie; 9 grandchildren Katelyn Bowser, Tyler McKenzie, Ian McKenzie and wife Valeria; Alec McKenzie and wife Megan and their kids Greyson and Addison McKenzie; Emma Coburn, Zachary McKenzie, Ashton McKenzie, Cale McKenzie, and Jacob McKenzie all in Oklahoma. Having no children of his own he embraced being a grandparent and was so proud of his grandkids and loved them fiercely.
David was a prolific reader, historian and model builder who had numerous articles published in several magazines. He was active in several model organizations. Dave's passion was model building and was a true artist. His dioramas were awe inspiring in their attention to detail and historic accuracy. Dave judged others at the national conventions held every year across the nation and was considered an expert in the field.
Dave proudly served 4 years in the US Navy aboard a submarine and battleship. He owned a music / instrument store in Virginia before he moved back to Oklahoma and became an inspector for oil pipeline for nearly 30 years.
