David "Dave" Lauseng, age 57, of Brownton, Minnesota, formerly of St. Michael, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025, with his wife Nancy and dog Nela near his side.
Dave was born on August 13, 1967, in Coon Rapids, MN, to Ellsworth "Butch" and Diana (Jewett) Lauseng. He grew up in New Hope and graduated from Robbinsdale-Armstrong High School in 1985.
Following high school, Dave began his career as a network administrator, a role he dedicated himself to for more than 35 years. He also painted houses occasionally to make ends meet, a trade he proudly learned from his father and Uncle Stanley Lauseng.
In 1992, Dave met Nancy at Eric Swenson's archery tournament in Dayton. On August 19, 1995, they were married in a backyard ceremony at Nancy's parents' home in Golden Valley. They honeymooned in the Black Hills and were excited to start their life together when Nancy was suddenly deployed to Germany for nearly a year. Dave put aside his fear of flying to visit his young bride and together they explored Germany, France and Austria by train. It was the first of many grand adventures they would share during their nearly 30-year marriage.
Dave had an exuberance for life and enjoyed snowmobiling, grouse hunting, watching movies, camping, and traveling to new places. He was an avid researcher who could retain even the smallest detail, making him a true wealth of knowledge. He loved studying the weather and enjoyed stargazing and astronomy. Music was his passion – the louder, the better! He also enjoyed working with his hands, spending time on woodworking projects and home improvements.
Dave was a lifetime member of the Minnesota Darkhouse & Angling Association, and supported the sport of snowmobiling through the Northwest Trails Association and Minnesota United Snowmobilers Association. He was very proud of his work to keep snowmobiling alive in Hennepin County. He also served as a confirmation guide at Alleluia Lutheran Church and helped organize a music festival to support the church's building fund. In 2015, Dave and Nancy moved to Brownton, fulfilling their dream to have a place in the country.
Dave loved being the fun uncle, teaching the kids how to do cannonballs into the pool, shoot fireworks and point out constellations in the sky. On Christmas Eve, Dave transformed into Santa Claus – a role perfect for his larger-than-life and jolly spirit. He loved spoiling his nieces and nephews with candy and toys, but the greatest gifts he gave are the memories we will forever cherish.
Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Allen; sister, Lisa Fowler; father-in-law, Martin Coughlin; brothers-in-law, Steven and Myron (Gretchen) Coughlin; sister-in-law Gretchen Coughlin; niece, Savannah Anderson; and beloved dogs, Friday, Shadow, Benson, and Duke.
Survived by wife, Nancy; sister, Debby Sallblad (Del); mother-in-law, Marlys; brothers and sisters-in-law, Patricia (Mark) Zehrer, Eileen (Jim) Keller, Joan (Dave) Liane, Dave, Dan, and Keith (Vidya) Coughlin; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends; and special dog child, Nela.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 12:00 PM (noon) with visitation one hour prior at The Peterson Chapel – 300 Main Street North, St. Michael, MN. Private family interment will take place at a later date.
You can celebrate Dave's beautiful life by listening to your favorite song, enjoying a beverage and reading his favorite prayer, St. Francis' Prayer for Peace.
Arrangements have been entrusted to The Peterson Chapel of St. Michael-Albertville. Online condolences for the family may be directed to www.thepetersonchapel.com
