David "Dave" Lebak, aged 84, peacefully passed away on March 27, 2024, at Thomas Jefferson Neuroscience Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.
Born on December 10, 1939, in Chesterfield, NJ, Dave grew up in Bordentown and graduated from William Macfarland High School in Bordentown where he excelled in athletics. He played for the Bordentown Little League and Bordentown Babe Ruth where he helped lead them to the State Championship at 15-years-old. He also played American Legion Baseball for Bordentown Post 26.
At William Macfarland High School, he was a star athlete, playing three varsity sports, football, basketball and baseball. He led the 1956 SJ Championship Basketball team and the 1957 SJ Championship Football team. Teams were known to gear their entire defense to stopping "Big Dave".
Dave was voted to the high school All-State Baseball team two years in a row, the All-State Football team, and All-County teams for Burlington County. He received a full scholarship offer from the University of Tennessee for football until a knee injury prevented him from pursuing football. Dave also had an invite tryout for the Philadelphia Phillies and remained a loyal Phillies fan his entire life.
He stayed active in sports after high school playing in the Rancocas Valley Men's Baseball league for the Koenig Oilers. He also played many years for the Columbus Inn Men's Softball team with his good friend and neighbor Bob Parker.
Over the years, Dave's contributions in athletics shifted to coaching and supporting others in their athletic pursuits. He coached Bordentown Little League baseball, Pop Warner football in New Egypt and Northern Burlington for several years in addition to coaching countless t-ball, Little League, Babe Ruth, and girls' softball teams. He also served on the Springfield Township Recreation Committee for over 20 years.
Dave's love for sports carried over to the next generation. He loved watching his five grandchildren in all of their sporting endeavors. He fully supported and attended their sporting events, and he was often the loudest cheerleader on the sidelines.
Dave married Nancy Hinkle on September 14, 1963, at the First Presbyterian Church in Yardville, NJ. The Bordentown natives moved to Springfield Twp in the home they built and where Dave continued to reside to-date. They had two kids, Kimm and David. Dave owned and operated Lebak Trucking with his father and brother Jim delivering blocks and bricks all over NJ and the surrounding area.
Dave was an avid outdoorsman and spent countless hours in the woods hunting, hiking and driving most of the sand roads in the pines. He had many good hunting beagles over the years and enjoyed rabbit and pheasant hunting, as well as deer hunting. He belonged to the Springfield Township Sportsmen Club for many years. He was also a proud member and past president of the Kinkora Buck Club in Whiting, NJ, and he has been the driving force behind Kinkora Buck Club for over 40 years.
Dave is the son of the late Andrew and Viola Lebak, predeceased by his loving wife of 44 years Nancy Lebak, his brother Jim Lebak, his sister Joan Keck, his mother-in-law Helen Hinkle, his sister-in-law Susan Asay, brother-in-law John Asay, and sister-in-law Valerie Hinkle.
