David Lyngholm Obituary

Davenport, Iowa - David R. Lyngholm, 74, of Davenport, Iowa, passed on Monday, February 9, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date, potentially in June. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Cancer Center, in Moline, Illinois.

David Richard Lyngholm was born on November 12, 1951, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Richard and Joan (Sothmann) Lyngholm. He graduated from West Davenport High School, Class of 1970. He married Mary Ann Gibbs, with whom he had two children prior to separating. He later married Teresa McKahan on September 13, 1986, in Davenport, Iowa. Together, they shared 40 years of a perfect marriage.

He was a mechanic his entire life, a passion that began in grade school when he traded apples for steering wheels to put on his bicycles. He worked for JI Case and the Rock Island Arsenal before retiring, though retirement only meant working on cars for himself. David enjoyed anything and everything related to automobiles. He raced modified stock cars for four years and took immense pride in his 1932 three-window coupe hot rod, which he built himself. He also maintained and worked on hot rods throughout the Quad Cities.

David never met a stranger. He had a magnetic personality that drew people to him, and he deeply valued and loved his friends. He is reunited with his best four-legged companion, Zula, who adopted David as her own. Originally the neighbor's dog, Zula found David and never left. When the neighbors eventually moved away, they left Zula with David; where she belonged.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Teresa Lyngholm; children, Jennifer (Shunte) Foster, Jami (Jeffrey) Dugan, Tobey (Dennis Jr.) Rhodes, and Benjamin Womack; grandchildren, Justin, Ashley, Airian (Gabi), Anthony, Alton, and HayLee; five great-grandchildren with two more on the way; mother, Joan Lyngholm; brother, Steven Lyngholm; and nieces, Steffanie, Christina, and Joey. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Lyngholm; sister, Ann Cheryl Heike; niece, Heather Lyngholm; first-wife, Mary Ann Gibbs; and his dog, Zula.

I did not know David but hail from the Quad Cities. I review obituaries because that is where I am from.
I saw a post on line the other day that really stuck with me. I, too, am an animal lover as it appears Dave was. Having seen that post I am convinced it was the 1st thing Dave experienced upon his passing. The post said that upon welcoming the person God said " someone has been waiting for you."
I am sure that when Dave looked up he saw his furry friend running towards him.
Rest in peace together you two.
God bless you both.
