David P Mathy, 88, of Marinette passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Home. He was born June 30, 1936, in Sheboygan, WI and moved to Menominee as an infant. He enlisted in the US Marines and served in the Korean War. On March 9, 1956, David married Barbara "Mitzi" La Pierre. He worked road construction for over 10 years which required him to travel. In order to be close to home he took a job at Ansul. He had also worked at the KSU Oil Pump Plant and Silvan Industries, where he retired from in 1998. Dave was involved in starting the local Little League program and coached for many years. He was also involved in starting the Marinette Catholic Central School baseball program. Dave was an avid Packer and Brewer fan, enjoyed playing Smear (Including many tournaments) and loved to socialize. He and Mitzi served as foster parents for over 70 children. He was a member of the Menominee American Legion and the Marinette Catholic Central Athletic Club.
Dave is survived by two daughters, Cindy (Ken) Gressel of Menominee and Theresa (Andy) Cegelski of Alva, FL; four sons: Allen (Doreen) Mathy of Marinette, Tim (Denise Kissel) Mathy of Athelstane, Rusty Mathy of Green Bay and Nick of Marinette; a sister, Judith Hopfensperger; brother, Michael (Cindy) Dugan; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Thielen Funeral Home on Tuesday Sept 3rd from 4pm to 6pm. A Prayer Service will be held at 6pm with Mike Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Menominee.
