David William McCollom, 77, of Rockford, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2025.
David was born in Rockford, IL on August 28, 1947, the son of Lowell and Irene (Tulip) McCollom. He graduated from Harlem High School, Class of 1965. Shortly after high school, David enlisted and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He married Melvadine Mooney on August 6, 1988, at the Church by the Side of the Road in Rockton, IL. David worked as a millwright for Local 2158 of Moline, IL, many years until his retirement.
On weekends, David could be found at various bowling alleys watching his sons and grandchildren bowl in leagues and tournaments. During the Christmas holiday, he enjoyed creating different spicy flavors for sauteed shrimp for everyone to enjoy. David also liked trying pizza with unusual toppings.
David is survived by his wife, Melvadine “Mel” McCollom; children, Aaron and Brian McCollom, Wendy (Patrick) Breit, Gary (Stacy) Mooney, Brian (Amy) Mooney, Timothy (Janet) Mooney; granddaughter, Madisen (Milan) Sharma and great-grandson, Rivan; grandson, Mahlon McCollom; granddaughter, Brittany (Anthony) Sparacino and great-grandchildren, Lacie and AJ; grandsons, Derek (Samantha) Breit, Brandon Mooney (Bridgette Jacobs), Justin, Zachary, Connor, Ryan and Kyle Mooney; sister, Judy Sherbon and nephews, Anthony (Tonsha) Sherbon and Joe Sherbon; sister-in-law, Sandi McCollom, nephew, Luke McCollom and niece, Bekka McCollom. David is predeceased by his parents Lowell and Irene McCollom; brother, Robert McCollom and brother-in-law, Paul Sherbon.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108. Burial will conclude in New Milford Cemetery on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David’s name to a local charity.
