David Jonathan McDonald, age 70, of McDonough, Georgia passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025, at home with his family by his side. He was born on January 27, 1955, in Bainbridge, Georgia, and moved to Atlanta when he was young.
David graduated from Lakeshore High School in College Park, Georgia, and joined the United States Navy after graduation.
Stationed in Barbers Point, Hawaii, Patrol Squadron 6, David was a Radio Operator flying on P3B Airplanes. During his time in the Navy, he was awarded several Medals and completed multiple specialized technical courses and training.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy, David took his training and experience to work at the Federal Aviation Administration. After a long career, he retired from the FAA as Atlanta TRACON Service Operations Center Manager.
David was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Irene Gordy, his sister, Mary Alice Gordy, and his step father, Thomas Eugene Gordy.
David was a loving father, wonderful husband and an honorable man. He is survived by his wife, Judy Johnson McDonald; sons, Thomas Alan McDonald and Robert Brock (Kristen) McDonald; grandchildren, Anna Claire and Graham Brock McDonald; brother, Mark (Maryann) McDonald; niece, Erin McDonald; nephew, Kevin (Rachel) McDonald; great nieces, Brooklyn, Kayla and Harper; and many cousins.
A service to celebrate David's life will take place on Saturday, June 7, 2025, beginning at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Canon Cleveland Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. An inurnment will take place at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia, with military honors at a later time.
