David Newton McIlvain, 78, of Cynthiana, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2025. He was born in Cynthiana, KY, on January 2, 1947, to the late Harold Webster and Sue Johnson McIlvain. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Jimmie McIlvain; and a sister, Rebecca Susan McIlvain.
David is survived by his wife, Layne Varner McIlvain; two sons, Jason (Megan) McIlvain, Matthew McIlvain; a daughter, Lindsay McIlvain; and grandchildren, Piper Dylan Sweet, Gray Johnson McIlvain, Vin Russell McIlvain, Eli Martin McIlvain.
His family recalls his love for farming and golf; he was a member of the Cynthiana Country Club, Cynthiana Inquisitors as well as Cynthiana Chrisitan Church. David was a former Cynthiana City commissioner and a Harrison County Magistrate. He enjoyed being his own boss, he loved his family, and being such a wonderful caretaker for so many in his life. He was able to make anyone laugh. David enjoyed having his family together and he had a soft spot for animals. Those who knew and loved him will certainly miss him.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Cynthiana Christian Church. Friends and family may pay their respects from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service, 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 14, 2025. Dr. Jim Abernathy will lead David's service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Humane Society of Harrison County, P.O.
