David James Mellon

David James Mellon, the beloved husband of Katie (Crehan) Mellon and son of the late Joseph T. and Catherine M. Mellon, ended his courageous and difficult journey with lymphomatous cancer on October 1, 2023 at Tufts Medical Center. Visitation at the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre St, West Roxbury, MA will be from 4-8 PM on Wednesday, October 4, 2023. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated the following day, Thursday, October 5, 2023 at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church, 2078 Centre St, West Roxbury at 10 AM. A proud veteran, serving in the US Army in Europe in the 1960's, David will be buried with Military Funeral Honors in The Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on Friday, October 6, at 10:45 AM.
David will be greatly missed by his loving and devoted wife, Katie; his sister Agnes and her husband Frank Ward; Jimmy Hogan whose wife Cathy, David's sister, passed away October 1, 2021; brother-in-law Kevin Crehan and his wife Kathy; and brother-in law Billy Crehan. He is also survived by a nephew, a grandnephew, many nieces, and a grandniece whom he loved very much and who loved him. He always appreciated and enjoyed the opportunity to be with cousins, aunts, and uncles.
David was predeceased by his brother Joey, his parents Joe and Kay, and his sister, Cathy. He had overcome challenges and obstacles that would have destroyed others. He was a good friend to many, strong spirited, tough, and courageous in facing his medical crosses.
Yes, "David was David:" Straight forward, opinionated, and no-nonsense but also generous to family and friends, fun to be with, appreciative of those who cared for him. He and Katie voiced many superlatives about David's care by the oncology and hematology doctors, nurses, and the other staff at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. He was so grateful of Katie's love and care.
We thank God for having him in our lives.
