David F. Metott, Sr., of Metott Rd., Camden, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse.
He was born on September 16, 1949, in
Rome, NY, the son of David A. and Margaret M. (Pool) Metott. He was a 1970 graduate of Rome Free Academy.
On July 28, 1973, David was united in marriage to Sally J. Aikens in Westdale, New York.
David proudly served his country in the United States Army.
A proud truck driver for more than 50 years, David spent his career on the road working for several companies, including VanSlyke Trucking and G. W. Platt & Sons. His strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to doing the job right earned him the respect of coworkers and friends throughout the industry.
David also devoted much of his life to helping others. He served as an EMT and driver with North Shore Ambulance for nineteen years and previously volunteered with the North Oswego County Ambulance. Since 1994, he was a loyal member of the Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as past rescue captain. For more than two decades, he shared his knowledge as a First Aid and CPR instructor, training countless individuals in lifesaving skills.
Beyond his service in emergency response, David was well known in local athletics. He was a ASA/USA softball umpire and proudly served as the President of the Oswego County Umpires Association for the past fifteen years, offering leadership, mentorship, and a steady presence on and off the field.
David's life was marked by dedication-to his work, his community, and the people who depended on him. His commitment, kindness, and calm dependability will be deeply missed.
Surviving besides his loving wife, Sally; are his eight children, Kathleen Metott, of Phoenix, David "Clyde" (Martha) Metott, Jr., Andrea Metott, Tiffany (John) Toper, all of Camden, Kelli (Gerald) King, of Williamstown, Lindsay (Michael) Bourgeois, of Cleveland, Krystal (Johnny) Bajnoczy, of Taberg, and Jake (Emily) Metott, of Camden; fifteen grandchildren, Brandi (Deric) Cox, Johathan Stupke (Emalee Herrington), Maggie Metott, Bayleigh Metott, Lindsey Toper (Alex Austin), Arianna Seymour, Maddy Toper, Kaden King, Makayla King, Rhyleigh King, Katie Copper, Kyra Copper, Bentley Bajnoczy, Delilah Metott, and Mason Metott; four great-grandchildren and one on the way; his siblings, Michael (April) Metott, of Arkansas, Elaine (Jerry) Balcom, Timothy (Kelli) Metott, and John Metott, all of Camden; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 6:00 PM at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 9464 St. Rt. 13, Camden, where Pastor Jeff Moore will officiate. Interment will take place in the family cemetery in the spring. Family and friends are invited and may call on Friday prior to the service from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home. A celebration of David's life will be held at the Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department immediately following services at the funeral home.
