David Lamar Millican 89 of West Armuchee passed away on June 14, 2024, peacefully with his daughter and son in law with him. He was born at home on April 4, 1935, on the farm he has cherished for many years. His mother often talked of that snowy day.
He was a member of Pleasant Hill Methodist Church most of his life. Having joined at age 13 when he accepted Jesus as his savior. He was a graduate of Subligna High School and was soon employed by Dupont of Chattanooga at the of age 18. He left to serve our country in the United States Army for two years. He returned to the job they were holding for him, where he remained for 38 years before retiring. He was very involved in the starting of Station #17 of the Walker County Volunteer Fire Department many years ago.
He raised beef cattle on the family farm that he purchased from his father in 1968. He later took in his son-in-law as a partner, where they have run a successful cattle and hay operation for many years that saw him mowing hay just a week ago.
He married Reba Carpenter Millican on February 11, 1957. They were married 66 years before her passing in January of 2023. He was also preceeded in death by his parents, Ralph and Jewell Millican, two sisters, Audrey Neal and Jackie McGeehee and brother Kenneth Millican.
Those left to treasure his memory and cherish his stories of the good ole days are his daughter Becky and his beloved son-in-law, Richard Norris. He had two grandsons that he was so very proud of, Dusty (Lauren) Pinion and Trevor (Rebekah) Norris. Four great grandchildren that brought nothing but pure joy to his life at the sheer mention of their name, Daniel, Kaylee, Hadley and Everly. Special brother and sister-in-law Raney and Ann Carpenter. Bella, his dog, his true companion and comfort after Reba's passing. Special nieces and nephews also survive.
Pallbearers are Dusty Pinion, Trevor Norris, Daniel Pinion, Richard Norris, Brian Neal, Tony Reeves.
Graveside service at Pleasant Hill Cemetery with grandsons officiating on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church Cemetery Fund: 4686 W. Armuchee Road, Summerville, GA 30747.
Arrangements are by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home, LaFayette.
