David Lee Mills

David Lee Mills, age 91, of Ankeny, Iowa peacefully passed away on June 11, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Dave was a major contributor to the development and passage of The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 as the past Executive Director of the National Rehabilitation Association.
Dave's natural gift for leading people and plans was put to great use throughout his decades of volunteer service with multiple organizations, including AARP, Planned Parenthood Book Sale, and the Abraham Lincoln Alumni Association. He was also tireless in his dedication to programs supporting Drake University, his beloved alma mater, recently fulfilling his 68th year of service with The Drake Relays.
Dave is survived by sister, Shirley; brother Jim (Ruthann); his children, Trudy (Brad), David Jr. and Margie, and a host of adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He now joins his loved ones who have preceded him in death to celebrate his deep and abiding love of family. As a mentor to all, his passion will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure to experience his love and grace. Rest in peace.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Drake University, Knapp Center, Courtside Club on Sunday, June 30, 2024, from 1PM - 3PM. Dave loved pie and seemed to have a photographic memory about every roadside stop that served the best of the best. So, please join us in sharing a slice (or two) and all the wonderful memories he helped create over the course of a long life so well lived.
