David Paul Morris, 81, was born on October 8, 1943, in Dallas, Texas and went home to be with the Lord on May 23, 2025, in Mesquite.
He was preceded in death by his father, Grant Carlisle Morris, Sr., mother, Monnie Dee Morris, and a brother, Grant Carlisle Morris, Jr.
He is survived by four sons, Paul Cameron Morris of North Richland Hills, Texas, Hans Morris, Neil Morris and James Morris all of Knoxville, Tennessee; stepson, he claimed as his own, Anthony "Tony" Tallant of Keller, Texas, sisters, Barbara Plunk Calhoun and Carlene Fonseca of Mesquite, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
David was an amazing musician, playing the piano/keyboard and guitar. He never took lessons but could just hear a song, sit down and begin to play it. He played all styles of music. He played with bands, Salt and Pepper, The Chancellors, just to name two. He went on tour in 1969 to Chicago, Boston and New York. He played at the Sugar Shack in Boston. He played locally in the Dallas/Fort Worth area nightclubs, The Blue Room, Bob's, The Loser's Club, Phantasmagoria and the Debonaire. He appeared on the local television show Sump'n Else, hosted by Ron Chapman in the late 60s-early 70s.
When he was not playing music he worked at different jobs, painting/drywall, and maintenance. David loved to take walks watching God's creation. He loved to feed the squirrels and the birds, observing their habits and occasionally protecting them from predators.
David also loved to work crossword puzzles and liked to be challenged by the hardest ones. His vocabulary was expanded because of it. You could tell when he was using "puzzle" words in his conversations with you. He loved woodworking, which included making shelves, tables and fixing things that were broken. He built a "fort"/tree house for his sons when they lived on Lovett Ave in Dallas.
Being a funny person and child at heart, children were drawn to him like a magnet for his entertainment either with music, funny stories, joking around or playing outside with them. Although he was not a man of great means he never turned away a beggar or homeless person, always with something to give.
David was one of a kind and he will be missed by all who knew him and loved him, until we meet again with Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
