David A. Newbitt, of Hanover, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Brigham and Women's Hospital on Sunday, May 11th, at the age of 77 after a brief illness.
Born and raised in England, he was the son of George and Doreen Newbitt. David was the beloved husband of Patricia (Luddy) Newbitt, loving father of Caitlin Ricciarelli and her husband Ronald of Whitman, and Cara Provencal and her husband Alexander of Pembroke. Cherished grandfather (Grit) of Christopher, Benjamin, and Ryan, and step-grandfather of Lucas and Charlotte.
David was one of seven siblings and is remembered fondly by Michael, Geraldine, Ian, Patricia, Jayne, and Nicola, as well as their spouses and several nieces and nephews. They all reside in the UK and Belgium and he always looked forward to his yearly trip to England for a family reunion.
David was always happiest when enjoying time with family. Whether it was birthdays, holidays, or just a casual get together on the weekends, he enjoyed being surrounded by those he loved. He was a great story teller, sharing his stories of growing up in England and his exciting time living in Bermuda in the 70's, where he eventually met his wife in 1980. His quick wit kept everyone laughing, and his grandchildren always loved his jokes. David especially looked forward to the weeklong family trip to the Cape each summer, where he could usually be found sitting on the back deck in the sunshine. In addition, he enjoyed several cruises with family and friends, and also looked forward to returning to Bermuda the last few years. He was also an avid reader, with a heightened interest in both European and US history.
Besides his family, David's other great love was soccer. He played for the Bermuda Athletic Association during his time living on the island, and was a dedicated coach from the time his daughters started playing. He also went on to coach several club soccer teams, as well as coaching the Hanover High School Girls, where he was well-respected by both players and parents alike. When he wasn't coaching soccer, he was watching it, and was an avid follower of Chelsea Football Club.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, May 18th from 2-5pm, at Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington Street, Rte. 53, Hanover. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 19th, at 10am, at Our Lady of the Angels Parish - St. Mary's Church, 392 Hanover Street, Rte. 139, Hanover. Burial will be held privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in David's name may be made to the Hanover High School Girls Soccer Boosters, by mail to Krissy Maniscalco c/o Hanover High School Girls Soccer Boosters, 41 Birch Drive, Hanover, MA 02339 or the Hanover Food Pantry, PO Box 493, Hanover, MA 02339 or via Venmo: @HanoverFoodPantry.

We are so sorry for your loss words can´t say enough. Dave was one of my daughters soccer coaches and a family friend. I also worked with Dave for 16 years and it was a privilege. He made me a Chelsea fan and would bring me back programs of the games he went to.
Dave was kind, friendly, caring and a gentleman and I loved our friendship.
Next time I go over the pond I will get in the shed end and think of him.
He will be missed.
