In Loving Memory of David John Nicholson, Sr.
David John Nicholson, Sr., age 86, of St. James City, FL, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 8th, 1939, in Syracuse, NY, David was the beloved son of Amos and Lillian Nicholson. He grew up with a deep sense of integrity, kindness, and humor that touched everyone he met. After graduating from high school, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the Airforce in 1959. He was a proud lifetime member of the American Legion, the American Legion Riders and the VFW.
A man of many talents, “Baby Dave” was an Engineer for NY State DOT for 35 plus years, known for his hard work ethic. Outside of work, he enjoyed boating, golfing, hunting, fishing, crabbing in the Gulf, motorcycling, ham radio, Syracuse Orange, and loved spending time with family and friends at camp on Oneida Lake.
Dave is predeceased by his wife Carol Nicholson of 58 years, together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion. He is predeceased by his parents, and sister Marcia Kurland.
Surviving is his daughter Bonnie Gass (Dale), son David Nicholson Jr. (Carol Weis), son Stephen Nicholson (Laura); grandchildren Zachary Potter (Brionna), Shane Potter, Kassandra Nicholson, Boden Nicholson; great grandchildren Brycen Potter, Paisely Potter; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on February 7th, 5:00 pm at the American Legion Post 136, Pine Island, FL. Another celebration of life will be held at a future date this Summer in Syracuse, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Legion Post 136 (www.legion.org/donate), or the VFW Post 7325 (heroes.vfw.org) in his memory.
