On a chilly winter day, the afternoon sun shone brightly through the window, warming the backs of family and friends surrounding David Lee Nunn. As the sun began to set, David's son, Steven Richard Nunn, and daughter, Kimberlee Nunn Magrill, shared stories and told their father they loved him. As night fell, David peacefully slept as he was welcomed into heaven on January 14, 2025 by his beloved wife, Loretta Vint Nunn, and his son, Brian David Nunn, free from pain and able to breathe freely.
David Lee Nunn was preceded in death by his parents, Marinda Knuckles Nunn and Leroy William Nunn; his brother, William Keith Nunn; his wife, Loretta Vint Nunn; and his son, Brian David Nunn.
He is survived by his brother, Wayne Gilbert Nunn (and wife Pat); his son, Steven Richard Nunn (and wife Jody); his daughter, Kimberlee Nunn Magrill (and husband Evan Magrill); his grandchildren, Justin Richard Nunn (and wife Katie), Nicholas Andrew Nunn (and wife Carey), Edward Maxwell Magrill, and Jack Alexander Magrill; his great-grandchildren, Oliver Nunn and Avery Nunn; and dear friend Marney Brickhouse, as well as countless other family members and friends.
David's journey began in Williamsburg, VA, where he graduated from James Blair High School as part of the Class of 1960. He went on to attend the University of Virginia, where he cultivated a lifelong passion for learning and community service.
Throughout his life, David demonstrated an unwavering dedication to hard work and service. He began his career supporting his parents' farm, later working as a sous chef at Colonial Williamsburg before transitioning to a life-long career with Verizon.
David was a pillar of his community, particularly during his 24-year tenure as scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 103 in Williamsburg, VA. He planned and executed countless adventures and camping trips, shepherding over 103 young men through the Eagle Scout process and serving in various leadership roles, including the Order of the Arrow. David attended four National Boy Scout Jamborees and served as Trading Post B Scoutmaster in the 1980s and 1990s.
His travels to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico and a canoe trip across Canada created cherished memories that lasted a lifetime.
David's love of life and community extended to his active involvement with Olive Branch Christian Church, where he devoted time and energy to numerous activities. He found joy in sharing seafood meals with loved ones, doting on his grandsons and great-grandchildren, scrolling through Facebook, keeping up with friends, and enjoying a good book alongside his beloved dachshund, Ellie.
As a dedicated father and husband, David instilled in his children the importance of hard work and doing one's best, as well as the value of serving others. His legacy of service and compassion lives on through his family and the countless lives he touched.
In his final weeks, David was surrounded by love and care, with Steven by his side. The family deeply appreciates the visits and support from Wayne Nunn, Marney Brickhouse, Pastor Richard Cline, Mike O'Neal, and the many family members and friends who reached out during David's final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to one of the following organizations to honor David's legacy of service: Olive Branch Christian Church or Boy Scout Troop 103.
A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Olive Branch Christian Church, 7643 Richmond Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188.

David you were an amazing Scout Master for my son´s troop (103)
Later on you and your awesome wife had a day care and I was so happy you had space for my granddaughter Nevaeh. You will be truly missed. Until we meet again in Heaven

Thanks Mr. Nunn for being my Scoutmaster at Troop 103 and guiding me to become an Eagle Scout. I still remember you attending my high school piano recital and letting me know that you enjoyed listening to Mozart. With love and prayers, Johnny
