West Jordan, Utah – David Peila Pasi, age 81, of West Jordan, passed away on December 5, 2024, in Hurricane, Utah.

David Peila Pasi was born December 20, 1942 to Latu Nahau Pasi in Fotua, Foa, Ha’apai, Tonga. She gave him the name Viliami (William), his father registered him as Tevita (David). Most family and friends called him Peila.

Between the ages 13-19, David attended Tonga College ‘Atele, an all-boys, British-style boarding school. From there he attended Liahona High School, an American-style LDS boarding school. While there he became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

David came to the United States on October 12, 1963, and attended Church College of Hawaii (now BYU Hawaii). He worked as a dancer at the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC). In the summer of ‘66 selected dancers went on tour to California and UT. They were an act on Ed Sullivan’s TV Show and performed multiple nights at the Hollywood Bowl and in Salt Lake City.

David returned to Hawaii and school in January 1967 where he met Susan Sandberg on campus. They married in Reno, Nevada on October 30, 1967. They lived in South Gate, California, had their first child, a son, and were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple. They moved back to Oahu in August 1970 where they added three girls to their family.

They moved to Utah, bought their first home in West Jordan in January 1977, and later added their final child to the family, a daughter.

David was a commercial carpenter by profession and learned many skills from the other trades. He was always the last man on the job. He was in much demand helping around his neighborhood and happy to earn his general contractor license.

His favorite church jobs among the many were primary teacher and Jordan River Temple Ordinance Worker. He was a brother to all who met him and was known for starting talks and testimonies with “Aloha!”

David’s favorite place was anywhere his wife was and dearly missed her whenever they were apart. His life was one of devotion to his wife and family. He will be greatly missed until we all meet again but has left a beautiful legacy.

David leaves behind his wife, Susan, and their 5 children, Brian (Wendy) Pasi, of Saratoga Springs; Tonya Bretherton, Thousand Oaks, California; Caroline (Aaron) Wagner, Midvale; Andrea Pasi, Riverton; Megan (Thomas) ‘Iloa, Hurricane; 16 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
