FARMINGDALE - David Saunders Patterson, 90, passed away at his home in Farmingdale surrounded by his family on November 5, 2025. He was born in Augusta, Maine on July 6, 1935, to parents Saunders and Louise Patterson. He grew up in Maine and attended the Augusta school system with his two siblings, Richard and Lynda. He had two children from his first marriage, David Patterson and Kathy Patterson. In his second marriage he married Nancy F. Cole on June 1, 1968, and with this marriage came his stepdaughter, Kimberly Longfellow. Kimberly and her husband, Alden, blessed him with 7 grandchildren: Michael Longfellow, Kristy Dan, Daniel Longfellow, Jessica Connors, Jacob Longfellow, Jonathan Longfellow, and Joseph Longfellow. His grandchildren in turn blessed him with 20 great grandchildren.
David had a very long and interesting life. He graduated from Cony High School on June 17, 1953. He joined the Air Force where he served in Intelligence in France from May of 1955 to January of 1959. He worked many jobs after leaving the Air Force including: an aid at Togus, a pharmacy technician at AMHI, and then the State Supervisor of Surplus Property before retiring in 1990.
What made David's life most interesting was what he did outside of work. David had a supernatural memory and could quote the price of almost anything he ever purchased, the phone number of any of the many people in his life, and the specific statistics of any given professional athlete. He was the Maine State Auctioneer, a founding member of The Augusta Players and acted in many of their plays, a film aficionado, a clown in a troupe who shook hands with then Vice President Nixon, a sports fanatic, an opera enthusiast, and a friend to many.
In his later years he enjoyed many meals with his friends at the Cohen Community Center where he was known for having a story for any occasion. He spent many Sundays at Granite Hill church where Michael and Kelleen Longfellow previously pastored. He credits his faith and love of Jesus to his grandson/pastor Michael Longfellow. But if anything can really be said about David, it is how much he loved his late wife, Nancy Patterson. He spoke of her daily and from the moment of her passing until the moment of his passing he could tell you the exact amount of time that he had been without her - down to the seconds. It is our family's belief that he is now reunited in heaven with the love of his life.
A private burial will be held in the coming months for David's close family and friends.
Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue,
